Rolled Threads Unlimited

Due to the multitasking nature of Swiss machines, process synchronization is certainly one way to achieve productivity gains. The option of either synchronizing multiple tool posts on the same spindle , or on opposing spindles is a great way to lower cycle times and increase throughput. Here’s a three-part video series focused on Swiss screw making to help explain the benefits of thread whirling, back turning and broaching while taking into consideration CAM programming, tooling and machine specifications. Anyone out there running roller tip rockers and have noticed them being a little noisy? I’ve got Edelbrock RPM heads and stamped steel rockers with roller tips. Not a loud clatter like the valves are out of adjustment, but a tick. I’ve re-adjusted the vavles twice so far to see if I can make it go away, but it doesn’t? It’s not an exhaust leak off the headers because I just replaced with new gaskets and and tightened and re-tightened the header bolts. I can even hear it over the rumble of the exhaust and idle, part throttle, and cruising speeds?? The Sailrite® Ultrafeed® LS-1 Sewing Machine is the best straight-stitch, portable walking foot sewing machine in the industry.

An optional automatic eccentric is available for matching dies, which is also controller through the touch screen. Champion is pleased to announce the acquisition of Modern Cam & Tool. Modern is a precision cam manufacturing company located in Taylor, Michigan and has been engineering and manufacturing OEM cams since 1971. Champion has been supplying the metal turning industry since 1945 and Modern has been a supplier to Champion for over 40 years. Cams can be purchased thru Champion or Modern Cam for the same pricing and delivery. Bickford, John H.; Nassar, Sayed , Handbook of bolts and bolted joints, CRC Press, ISBN . ] Though resembling a screw, this is not a screw in the usual sense of the word. A lathe of 1871, equipped with leadscrew and change gears for single-point screw-cutting. These abbreviations have jargon currency among fastener specialists . The smaller basic ones can be built up into the longer ones; for example, knowing that “FH” means “flat head”, it may be possible to parse the rest of a longer abbreviation containing “FH”.

It is important to realize that simply quoting an AMS number without strength and percentage of elongation numbers is meaningless. Statements that the use of a particular material will, in itself, result in extreme strength and resistance to fatigue can be misleading. In the world of high strength alloys, whether they are used for bolts or for landing gears, the manufacturing processes are at least as important as the material specification. Our patented process begins with a softer wire that can be cold forged. The process work hardens the head and the under head area to the desired hardness. We then power extrude the front end to achieve the reduction and hardness in the shank resulting in a bolt with even strength and hardness from end to end. If care is not taken the process can reduce the hardness of the bolt head and the area immediately under it as much as 3 to 5 points on the Rockwell C scale. Subsequent heat-treatment does not restore this partially annealed area to full hardness and strength.

During its history, Superior has accumulated probably the industry’s most comprehensive inventory of thread-rolling dies. The company works diligently to keep these dies continuously updated and maintained. Inspection of the finished screw threads can be achieved in various ways, with the expense of the method tailored to the requirements of the product application. Shop-floor inspection of a thread is often as simple as running a nut onto it or a bolt into it . This is plenty good enough for many applications (e.g., MRO or hobbyist work), although it is not good enough for most commercial manufacturing. Materials are limited to ductile materials because the threads are cold formed. However, this increases the thread’s yield strength, surface finish, hardness, and wear resistance. Also, materials with good deformation characteristics are necessary for rolling; these materials include softer metals and exclude brittle materials, such as cast iron.

Inspection of pitch diameters are performed with both full form and single element indicating type gauges that are set with thread masters. Standard outside diameter micrometers are used for inspecting major diameters, and optical comparators are used to check minor diameters and root radii. With all of these gauges available on the shop floor, a thread rolling operator can monitor the process and make adjustments quickly. Die wear and other variables can affect the rolling process, but once a machine is set, the process is consistent and repeatable. On the other end of the spectrum, there is the very specialized niche of high precision thread rolling, primarily on small batches of parts. Some high technology industries, including aerospace and motorsports, require extremely tight tolerance threads with super surface finishes, and the extra strength inherent in parts made with the forming process. Thread Rolling Inc. uses a combination of vertical cylindrical three-die machines, horizontal flat die reciprocating machines, and horizontal cylindrical two-die machines to produce precision threads. Our goal is to provide the better quality with lower price to our customer. We arrange our production lines – thread rolling machine and thread rolling die into batch production, and has won unanimous adoption and honors from the customers for both local market and abroad. The threads are usually produced via thread rolling; however, some are cut.

Available in a variety of colors, they’re tall enough to accommodate most anything compatible with original or aftermarket Pontiac cylinder heads that use the stock layout. Valve cover spacers are available if additional height is required. Pontiac originally used a dual-valvespring package in its production V-8 engines. Such sets are still an excellent choice and the aftermarket has many options containing various open and closed pressures and installation heights. Most aftermarket sets consist of an outer coil and inner coil that are separated by a damper, which absorbs harmonics. When exposed to very high valve lift and/or extreme valvespring pressure, rocker studs flex under load.

Camshaft duration can be measured at most any point of lifter rise and fall. “Advertised” duration is typically the amount of crankshaft rotation recorded between .006 inch of lobe rise and .006 inch of lobe fall. Advertised duration can have different meaning for different manufacturers, however. Aftermarket manufacturers began providing duration specifications at .050- inch lobe lift so consumers could compare various cams and predict the performance effects. That particular value was selected because it’s a reference point that easily measured and it’s about the point that significant airflow begins. A camshaft opens and closes the valves at specific points during crankshaft rotation. Those values, along with a few others makeup the “timing” or “events” of a particular cam.

While many camshaft manufacturers can provide you with a quality off the- shelf or custom solid-lifter grind for Pontiac V-8, finding suitable Pontiac specific solid lifters can be much more challenging. Hydraulic lifters require a large volume of pressurized oil for proper operation, and it also supplies the pushrods with oil to lubricate the rocker arms and valvesprings. A solid lifter, on the other hand, simply passes oil from the lifter bore to the pushrod. An adjustable valvetrain is required whenever the block and/ or cylinder heads are machined moderately. Proform offers a special wrench (number-66781) that allows for quick and easy valvetrain adjustments when using positive locking rocker nuts. A long-handle 5/8-inch wrench tightens the rocker arm adjuster nut while a 7/32-inch hex-head wrench tightens the internal set screw independently.

Spline Rolling Machine is inherently accurate, with surface finishes of 3 to 6 micro-inches obtainable by rolling.

The flat follower requires that everywhere the surface of the cam is convex. The roller follower demands that any concave portion of the working surface must have a radius at least equal to the radius of the roller. The knife follower does not, theoretically, impose any limit on the shape of the cam. These have the advantage that the only side thrust is that due to friction between the contact surfaces of cam and follower. The relative motion is one of sliding but it may be possible to reduce this by off setting the axis of the follower as shown in the diagram. This results in the the follower revolving under the influence of the cam. In this connection it should be noticed that the cam does not, as would at first appear likely, determine the motion of the follower during the whole of the its out-stroke. Actually, owing to the inertia of the follower, it is only during the first part of the out-stroke and the latter part of the return that the motion of the follower is positively controlled by the cam. Of the many types of cam, a few of the most common are shown in the diagram.
